CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Tourism Office is pleased to announce that Cedar Rapids area has once again been awarded the US Quidditch Midwest Regional Tournament. The tournament will return to the Tuma Soccer Complex in Marion on November 12-13, 2022.
Quidditch is a mixed-gender, contact sport created in 2005 by students at Middlebury College in Vermont. Fans of the Harry Potter series will be excited to watch this sport that features elements from rugby, basketball and dodgeball. In addition, all players must compete with brooms between their legs at all times.
"We were very impressed with Cedar Rapids and its facilities on our recent site visit. The city was very welcoming and friendly, and the Tuma Sports Complex has several great features that we know our teams will love,” says Laura Porth, Director of Events & Partnerships, US Quidditch. “Cedar Rapids has put together a fantastic bid and we're excited to host another USQ Regional Championship here.”
“We are excited to be selected as the host city for the 2022 US Quidditch Midwest Regional Championship,” says Jay Fanta, Cedar Rapids Tourism Office’s Director of Sports Tourism. “The Cedar Rapids area will be the host to hundreds of visitors from several states creating a positive economic impact for our hospitality community that will approach $125,000 in direct visitor spending.”
