CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Tourism Office is pleased to announce that Cedar Rapids is hosting the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships. After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the DIII Championship will return stronger than ever to the Alliant Energy PowerHouse on March 11-12, 2022.
“We are excited and honored to be hosting. The event planning has been a great collaboration between area partners and individuals who exemplify the best of Cedar Rapids.” says Jay Fanta, Cedar Rapids Tourism Office’s Director of Sports Tourism. “The City of Cedar Rapids and our local partners are a big reason that the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships will also be returning in 2026.”
Cedar Rapids has previously hosted the NCAA Wrestling Championships in 2016 and 2018, and the DIII Wrestling Championships were slated for Cedar Rapids in 2020. However, due to Covid-19, that event was cancelled. The 2022 championship will include 4 sessions of competition featuring athletes from across the country, and is sure to lift to the local economy with an estimated economic impact on the hospitality sector approaching $750,000.
“Wrestlers, coaches and fans are ecstatic to return to Cedar Rapids for the 2022 Championship. After two years of no championships, we are excited to experience the best NCAA DIII Wrestling Championship venue in a city that truly appreciates and supports NCAA DIII Wrestling,” says Tournament Director, Dick Simmons.
