CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Tourism Office and the City of Cedar Rapids is ecstatic to welcome the 2023 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) on March 3rd-4th to the Alliant Energy Powerhouse.
Cedar Rapids is slated to host the championships from 2023-2025. The NCWWC was previously hosted by Adrian College in Michigan in 2020 and 2022 and by Tiffin University in Ohio in 2021.
“It is a great honor for Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa to be selected to host the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship. The growth of girls and women's wrestling is great for women's athletics and the sport of wrestling. Hosting this championship allows Cedar Rapids to set the standards for future women's wrestling championships and our goal is to provide a quality championship experience for the wrestlers, coaches, team personnel and fans who attend,” says Tournament Director, Dick Simmons.
NCWWC currently includes the NCAA programs from the Division I, II and III levels. Athletes must qualify for the NCWWC through Regional Qualifiers. In 2022, there were 32 qualifying colleges represented with Division III, McKendree University, winning the last three NCWWC team titles.
“Moving the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships off campus, to be hosted in a spectacular facility with a strong local wrestling community in Cedar Rapids is a big step forward for NCAA women’s wrestling. We look forward to working with the Cedar Rapids Tourism Office and the local community as together we will advance women’s wrestling,” says Mike Moyer, Executive Director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
