Join a hands-on, beginner's painting workshop that includes a tracing sheet, step-by-step instructions and an example to reference as we paint, making them perfect for beginners. This class, hosted at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha), starts with a few watercolor exercises and a demonstration of the project. Then we will be invited to work at our own pace. In January, we'll paint a pine bough and some pinecones. This is recommended for ages 8–100. Simply bring a positive attitude, ready to learn a new skill! Facilitator Barb Thompson is a Cedar Rapids artist who loves to study florals and vegetation. She is drawn to recreate these beauties and capture their brilliance. Working off of photographs and plants from her own garden as well as bouquets she curates from local floral shops, she aims to capture the blooms and colors of the season for year-round enjoyment. Barb represents florals in oil, acrylic and watercolor paints, translating the beauty around her into colorful moments of Iowa life. The cost of this hands-on workshop is $50 and includes all art supplies. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
