<p>Our Fall 2024 exhibit will thoughtfully consider the impact of post Civil War society and the culture surrounding Jim Crow laws as the basis of the popularity of dehumanizing Black imagery. While this imagery was pervasive in all forms of pop culture and mass media, much of this imagery manifested itself in the American home. From salt and pepper shakers to lawn ornaments, objects of racism were accepted for decades in homes across America. These objects were a form of propaganda that created an acceptance of intolerance and injustice of the Black community for a century. The attitudes and acceptance of these biases continue to form social and cultural inequality and intolerance to this day. This exhibit will open September 13, 2024 in the newly renovated AAMI building.</p>

<p>As Cedar Rapids celebrates 175 years, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art highlights how the city has inspired artists over many decades. From the urban cityscape to pockets of nature and the faces that loom large in the city’s history, these works demonstrate the varied approaches artists have used to interpret and reflect the city. They create an image of artistic legacy that extends to the present day.</p>

<p>Despite their work often being overlooked, women artists developed and worked in abstraction alongside their male counterparts for many decades. In recent years, their contributions have been re-evaluated and these artists have been viewed with a new lens. This exhibition seeks to highlight women in the CRMA collection working in abstraction. Their approaches to abstraction vary; some slightly abstract their subject matter, while others move completely away from any recognizable object. Each of their abstractions operates on a unique emotional and intellectual level. </p>

Jana has presented her Exodus Report project online to two different audiences in the United States and her photos and stories have been shown at several galleries in Slovakia.</p>
