Where to Go Skating in Cedar Rapids

Hit the rails, trails and rinks in C.R.!

From purpose-built skate parks to smooth. classic roller rinks, we've scoped out the top locations for shredding and rolling in the Cedar Rapids area.

Skateboarding Parks in Cedar Rapids

  • The recently renovated Riverside Skate Park (C St. and 13th Ave. SW) reopened in late 2023, relocated to the southwest side of the park. Open year round, Riverside Skate Park offers a variety of concrete obstacles that mimic those from the original park. Newly installed lights make it possible to skate until 10 p.m.
  • Open since 2019, Butterfield Skate Park (Butterfield Park, 3500 29th Ave, Marion) in Marion offers 3,500 square feet of space for skateboarding. The skate park has concrete ramps, rails and various other features suitable for skaters of all levels.
  • Nearby in Mount Vernon you’ll find Underhill Skate Park (331 B Ave NE, Mount Vernon). Conveniently located just a block off 1st Ave, it features different types of jumps and hills for skateboarders.

Street Skate in the Great Outdoors

If street skating is more your style, take advantage of several local paved trails for a smooth ride. Great for all types of skating—rollerbladers take notice!

  • Prairie Park Fishery Loop Trail: 1.7 mile loop trail featuring river views; access via the fishery parking lot.
  • Cedar Lake Loop Trail: 1.6 mile loop around Cedar Lake; access on the west side and parking on Shaver.
  • Cedar Valley Nature Trail: 12.6 mile path that includes gentle changes in grade. Inline skaters are kindly asked to keep speeds reasonable and to practice good trail etiquette. Parking located at Tait Cummins Park and at McLoud Run Place on the NE side of Cedar Rapids.

What about in winter? Bring your ice skates and enjoy free outdoor ice skating at Hughes Park, weather permitting.

Classic Indoor Skating in C.R.

  • ImOn Ice is a great year-round option for ice skating, with public skate options available almost every day of the year. Skates are available to rent, and Friday sessions offer free skate rental with a paid admission. Children under three always skate free!
  • Super Skate offers the throwback vibe of a traditional indoor roller rink. Both roller skates and inline skates are available to rent. Looking to host a skating event? Birthday packages and private parties are also available to purchase.
