The extra wide tires on fat bikes are ideal for mud, snow and slick conditions. These bikes are easily ridden on a variety of surfaces – around town, on mountain bike trails, through river bottom areas and even on sandbars. The places to ride are endless.
As the popularity of fat bikes increases, the Cedar Rapids area is ready to welcome both resident and visiting riders. If you don’t own a fat bike, or don’t want to travel with one, you can rent from Hall Bicycle or Goldfinch Cyclery to conquer the trails in Beverly Park and Daniels Park. The knowledgeable staff at these shops will give you the lay of the land before you head out.
If you prefer a group ride, check out the Fat Sac & Fox Enduro ride - a three-hour enduro ride at Indian Creek Nature Center. Riders will need at least 3.8 inch tires for this course. Dates are changing this year, so for registration details and updates visit indiancreeknaturecenter.org.
For more in depth reports about trails, current trail conditions and more check in with the Linn Area Mountain Bike Association at lambaonline.org.
