The Cedar Rapids area is well known for the plentiful arts and culture in the area. Local galleries and museums are filled with art available for your viewing pleasure.

Galleries

African American Museum of Iowa - Iowa’s rich African American heritage is on display through various art and artifacts in permanent and temporary exhibits.

Black Earth Gallery - Focused on showing traditional and contemporary landscapes, figurative work, abstracts, sculptures, video, pop art, low brow and urban art.

Cedar Rapids Museum of Art – Notable exhibits this year: American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times through May 19 and Kick Up Your Heels: The Fine Art of Shoes from May 11 to September 1. Home to the world’s largest collection of Grant Wood works.

Cedar Rapids Public Library – Galleries at the Ladd Library and on the 3rd floor of the Downtown Library feature local artists works created in the last two years including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, paper/fiber/textile, and mixed media.

iowa Ceramics Center & Glass Studio – View the beautiful works of art in the gallery or create art of your own in classes including Friday Night Out classes for adults.

CSPS Hall – Programmed by Legion Arts, gallery exhibits are ever-changing throughout the year. Admission to the gallery space is always free.

The History Center – Local art and artifacts (including The Douglas Mansion itself– The History Center’s home) tell the stories of the past connecting people to the present and future of Linn County.

Iowa Masonic Library & Museum - The Library’s Masonic Museum houses a three-paneled painting entitled, “The First Three Degrees of Freemasonry” the only known Masonic painting of Iowa artist Grant Wood. From Babylonian tablets and ancient Egyptian tomb art, the museum’s treasures seem to be endless.

National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library – Art is all around the Museum and incorporated into the exhibits, but take special note of the art on display outside the exhibits as you navigate throughout the space.
